Mary was born in Hartford, Connecticut and moved to Chapel Hill when she was 6 years old. She’s always said it was the best decision her parents ever made! She feels so fortunate to have grown up in Chapel Hill; the beauty of the town, the campus and the surrounding countryside are breath taking. Mary graduated with a Bachelor’s in Accounting from Meredith College in Raleigh. After graduation she worked in the Accounting field for six years. But then she decided she wanted a little more excitement in her job and moved into the restaurant industry. She worked at Panzanella Café, a Carrboro treasure that’s now closed, and most recently Hickory Tavern, a popular gathering spot where folks watch the TarHeel games. The jobs were challenging but taught her customer service skills she never knew she had. A far cry from solitary accounting work, Mary loved being able to talk to people about their lives with some of the regulars becoming her friends.
The restaurant world, while exciting, is exhausting and Mary decided to return back to an office setting, but only for the right place. As luck would have it, one of her regulars at Hickory Tavern is an owner at Weaver Street Realty and they were looking for a new business manager! She applied and is now part of the Weaver Street Realty family.
Mary purchased her first home in Hillsborough. While not Carrboro, it’s a pretty awesome town. She loves the small town atmostphere and the quiet streets, while still being 15 minutes from downtown Carrboro or Chapel Hill. Her commute takes her up and down the NC Scenic Byway we call Old 86 through the beautiful Orange County countryside. Some people have stressful commutes to and from work, to Mary, it’s her decompression time. We all should be so lucky.
